West Nile Fever Symptoms:

West Nile Fever is one of the effects on humans of the West Nile Virus. Around 27% of people who become infected by the West Nile Virus experience West Nile Fever. Further, only 1% go on to be effected by the neuroinvasive disease, West Nile Encephalitis. So what are the main symptoms of West Nile Fever. This second stage of West Nile Fever has an incubation period of between 3 and 8 days. What this means is that it will be between 3 and 8 from when the patient contracts West Nile Fever to when they begin to display symptoms of West Nile Fever. After this they can expect to experience some of the following West Nile Fever symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Diaphoresis (excessive sweating)
  • Weakness
  • Lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes)
  • Drowsiness

These West Nile Fever symptoms above are all very likely to occur in the patient. In addition some sufferers may have a rash over the trunk of their body. Many sufferers have also reported upset stomach symptoms such as diarrhea, throwing up, feeling nauseous and lack of appetite for food.

Usually within a maximum of 10 days, the majority of these symptoms of West Nile Fever will have gone although most will feel drowsy and tiredness for several weeks after.
